Butterflies and Science

At the start of the summer, mom and the kids sat down and made a list of all the things they wanted to do this summer. On the list were things like swim, go to the movies, play in the fountains, go see the kitties at pet smart, go to the north pole, go to the moon, go to the butterflies at the Science museum down town and the Children's Museum (also down town). Unfortunately the North Pole and the Moon may not get done before the summer is over, swimming we have done, fountains we have done, we have done our share of petting kitties and mom recently took the kids to see Cars 2.
Today we tackled the Butterfly and Dinosaur exhibits at the Museum of Natural Science. This place was so cool! The kids had a blast looking at all the insects and creepy crawly things as well as the butterflies.

This dino was being built as we ate lunch. About the time we finished eating they finished building it.

Can you imagine this thing landing on your arm. Talk about freak out and scream like a little girl!!! Thank goodness this one was behind glass
 Walking stick
 EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW! Hissing cockroaches!
Drew looks a little worried about that big beetle behind him
A butterfly emerging from its cocoon
butterfly display
At the butterfly exhibit they have this big enclosed area that you can go into and watch all the butterflies just fly around you. It was so cool. Calyn really badly wanted one to land on her but none did. We all really enjoyed looking at all of them though.
A little butterfly sex ed for you...... or as Calyn said "look at those two dancing"
 Cool flowers
 A grumpy looking frog
LOVE this picture

 This one too!

Since we were already in the area we also went to The Children's Museum downtown. This place was amazing. We needed more people with us and more time. We didn't get to see it all. The kids had a great time but I think it would have been even better if we could have had one adult per child. There was so much to see and we didn't even get to 1/2 of it. I didn't take a lot of pictures here since there was so much to see and do and the kids were everywhere. Here are a few snap shots of what I did get.

Max doing some shopping
 Corry getting some groceries
The ambulance was a hit with the kids. Here is Max giving Grandma Chebs' thighs a shock back to life
Drew Calyn and Corry doing their magic on a dummy
 Corry and Calyn
This was in the Vet station. It is a skeleton of a cat. If you would put skin and some gray fur on it, it would look just like my parent's old cat Mortie right before she died (RIP she died at 20 years old)

 Max snowboarding
 Corry surfing the waves
 Calyn surfing
 Drew rock climbing
That concludes our day. We had a BLAST! Hopefully we will get to go back again soon.
