Matt’s wedding ring is Mokume different metals swirled together to create a design. We had to drive to an art gallery in Austin to purchase it or we could be on a waiting list for 6 months to have one made. When we bought it they made us very aware that these rings can not be sized to fit because of the design of the swirled metals. The picture below shows one with two metals but Matt's has three. It will at least give you an idea of what it looks like
Now moving onto the story…
Last night Matt and I took the kids to the “curly slide park”, the bigger park in our neighborhood. As we were watching the kids climb up the slide. He said “I am going to need to get a new wedding band. Mine doesn’t fit anymore.” (He is now at his goal weight so it’s too big, yeah Matt!)
It began to get dark so we head home. We get the kids all ready for bed. Once Calyn is finally asleep, Matt goes to take his ring out of his pocket, where we both thought he put it, and you guessed it, the ring is gone! He had remembered that he had a Kleenex in his pocket and had just thrown it way. So he went through the kitchen trash, nothing. Then we started second guessing ourselves of did he put it in his pocket or maybe just maybe when he threw away that coke can in the big dumpster in the garage it slipped of his finger. A HA! That’s where it must be! So at 10:30 at night Matt and I were digging through our big dumpster looking for his ring. Wouldn’t you know that Matt and I this week decided to trim our Sago Palm? Prickly branches everywhere! Ouch! We searched and searched to no avail. Matt even went back to the park with a flash light and didn’t find it.
This morning Merrick called and said she was meeting mom at the “big park” I had not told her about the ring yet so I explained about our searching frenzy and how we were both sad we couldn’t find it. Merrick said she would keep an eye out for it.
She looked for awhile and couldn’t find it so went over to the swings where Mom and the kids were. I guess Calyn was really worried that daddy had lost his ring. She even told Merrick that she was sad because Daddy would never be able to go to a wedding again without his ring.
Mom told her that they should say the St. Anthony prayer and maybe the ring would turn up. “Oh St. Anthony come around something’s lost and can’t be found” (try it sometime it really works!!)
Right after the prayer was said it was time to go. Merrick decided to go back to one of the slides and look again. There it was blending in with the woodchips but shining in the sun enough to catch her eye, Matt’s ring.
Oh happy day! Thanks Merrick!
